THE FAIRYTALE COLLECTION
with LILLIAN LIU
Lillian Liu is a fantasy and fashion photographer who has a unique and striking color vision. We fell in love with her style and we’re proud to present her transformative collection!
Inspired by fairytales and the opulent renaissance period, The Fairytale Collection with Lillian Liu explores a vibrant and striking color palette that work beautifully on a range of images from indoor to outdoor, from portraits to landscapes, and studio set ups.
Each action renders beautifully on its own, and also shines when paired with other actions in the collection.
We hope you enjoy exploring the color palette of these six premium actions!
Actions included in this set:
3. Garden of Paradise
5. Wolf in the Woods
6. Golden Age

CAME UP WITH USING THE ACTIONS!
These actions were lovely! They definitely captured an ethereal painterly vibe through an assortment of looks. Renaissance & Golden Age both create dramatic high contrast tones reminiscent of classical art (can you say Caravaggio?). It was easy to tweak the action a little to maintain my highlight/shadow details and they polished off the painted look from there. Inferno & Garden of Paradise definitely captured the fairytale look with a softer & dreamier palette; I really like the tonal range & depth they both create, whether combined or on their own. Apparition felt like moonlight, and could easily lend itself towards romantic or something more ominous depending on how you use it. Magical stuff all around!
I liked the collection overall, it really captured the feel of a lot of Lillian Liu's work really well, even with such varied looks. The layers are straightforward and easy to finesse as needed with different looks.
For me these actions molded my body of work into something I have always hoped it would be. It was always such a struggle for me to achieve that painterly look on my studio images until I found this collection. I found myself gravitating towards Garden of Paradise and Golden Age, as they quickly became my new favorite Fine Art Actions. The warm tones of each complimented skin ones, enhanced my models freckles, and added a whimsical touch that I have tried so hard in the past to achieve on my own. I found myself unable to get up from my computer as I was having so much fun editing. I felt like a kid on Christmas morning playing with a new toy!
I really enjoyed playing with these and think the colour tones are lovely. I wanted to keep a warm tone to the images, as they were shot in the afternoon and I wanted to keep that golden quality of the light. I found Golden Age worked best for both these images, and I also played around with the opacity of the different layers in the group, as well as the overall opacity of the groups as a whole, to get the desired effect.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this collection since it was by Lillian Liu, who I adore and is a color genius. I was afraid I wasn’t going to know what to do with it, but after playing with them I can honestly say it’s my favorite actions to use now. It’s such a beautiful collection full of colors and tones, both warm and cold. I did noticed that this collection has way more layers to it than the others collections. It can be a little overwhelming, but with the labeling of each layers it made it super easy to give an idea of what to do with them.
I love the fact that the actions are so different from one another yet still cohesive and they all have the Lillian Liu signifier style in them. The only thing I’m upset about is the amount of actions in this collection. I want more! I can’t wait to add this to my work flow, I feel like I’ll be using this collection a lot.
