CAME UP WITH USING THE ACTIONS!
The use of Joel Robison Collection actions has incredibly simplified my final workflow and allowed me to achieve finishing tonalities and quality that otherwise would take much longer time to produce. I usually de-construct the action and apply a-la-carte to my taste, avoiding complicated gradients and multiple steps. These are my daily to-go actions and it is great fun to experiment with them. I use them in my fine art composites for a dramatic and magical look, but also love to incorporate to my editorial and fashion imagery.
Using actions is something I've always been hesitant about as I am very picky regarding my color toning and vision. However, after following the Fine Art Actions collective & seeing how it expanded and grew I got intrigued. Purchasing the “Cinematic” collection was my first step & now using the “Artisan Collection” has shown me how interesting and educational it is.
The “Artisan Collection” specifically has an amazing detailed “basic” toning that does honor to it's name. The six presets give an amazing touch to create cinematic toning in both studio as location and have a wide variety of depth to enhance and work on with a lot of ease and personal aesthetic. I highly enjoyed going through all of them to explore and bring a new depth of color to my usual style of editing which is very painterly and soft.
It was a great pleasure to use these new actions. They fit very well with my style and my work. I used Castle Stones to emphasize Silver.
Neverland lets the colors shine on the one hand and through its purple shadows it gives the picture a lot of drama. At the same time Neverland is very subtle and tender.
Sepia Summer has a wonderful effect: it gives the whole picture something dreamy. And it creates soft golden colors.
Golden Door works especially well on portraits. The warm glow lets the portrait and the skin shine. The sometimes-yellowish effect on the skin can easily be corrected with a bit of the Cruella action.
Whimsical Evening brings the blue color up, and at the same time warms the picture in an amazing way.
Wonderland brings a nice red tint into the picture.
It’s not my intention to completely change the colors of a picture, but rather to intensify them to increase the effect and drama of the picture. This works so nice with all these actions. I really liked trying out these actions, and I almost didn’t have to adjust anything on the layers after using them, because I liked the effect a lot. Wonderful.
I got to check out the new Cinematic Fine Art Actions and had a good play with them over the weekend. I really enjoyed the base looks they provide but most of all the great range of flexibility within each of the action sets. I found them to be responsive, easy to use and minor tweaks can yield controlled changes in color and tonality. I will definitely incorporate them as part of my post workflow.

The actions used in these images were very easy to use. The outcomes are even more breathless. I used the actions to get a very emotional and moody feel. In my imagery I shoot for emotion. Something that will spark a story, have you lean in closer or just spark the imagination and let your mind wander. The actions helped pull those moods for me.
As you can see some are blended between two or more actions and some are a little more complex. I used some of my own techniques and some I relied solely on the actions. The actions are a GREAT starting ground to quickly get a mood so you don't have to work so hard to build it. I love the ease of pressing the button and then playing with the actions, colors, tones and more to get the right story. Such a job well done with these actions!
